In a press release dated February 8, 2006, the Educational Testing Service advised that the implementation date for the revised Graduate Record Examinations® (GRE®) General Test has been pushed back to the fall of 2007. Originally scheduled to launch in October 2006, the GRE® Board believes that the later transition to the new Internet-based (iBT) version of the GRE® will better serve students and institutions alike.

The GRE® general test is composed of verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing sections. These are skills that have been developed over a long period of time and aren't related to any specific field of study. You can check how you stand by taking our free GRE® Practice Test! icon

The GRE® subject tests, on the other hand, are intended to test the student's knowledge in specific subjects. As of now there are eight subject tests, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology.

For the general test, prepare at your own pace with Kaplan's effective online program. With 24-hour access, it's the ultimate in flexibility and convenience. The Kaplan GRE® Online Course icon was the first online GRE® prep in the nation. It's still #1 today.
